Modality scheduling is booking an imaging exam onto the right type of equipment, such as MRI, CT, ultrasound, X-ray, mammography, or PET, in a slot long enough for that exam and protocol. Each modality has its own rooms, durations, staffing, and prep rules, so an open time on the calendar is not always a bookable one.
This is why general-purpose scheduling tools book imaging badly: an MRI with contrast and one without can need different slot lengths, and some exams can only run on specific scanners or with specific staff present.
