Imaging order intake is the process of receiving an order or referral for an imaging exam, most often faxed from the referring provider's office, and turning it into a scheduled exam. It means capturing the patient, insurance, exam ordered, diagnosis, and referring provider, and checking the order is complete before the patient is called.
Also called referral fax intake. At many imaging centers it is still a physical queue: faxes printed, read, and rekeyed into the radiology information system (RIS) by hand, with incomplete orders chased back to the referring office by phone.
