How Echo works with RamSoft

By Alex Le, Echo product teamUpdated August 2026

Echo Booking is an AI receptionist for RamSoft, built for imaging centers. It answers every call 24/7, reads the referring physician's order, each site's modality schedule, and prior authorization status in OmegaAI or PowerServer, then books the ordered exam onto the right modality at the right location, with screening done, while the caller is on the line.

RamSoft runs the imaging center from the order in: a referring physician's order lands on the worklist, and somebody has to turn it into a study on a specific modality at a specific site, with eligibility checked, prior authorization sorted, and the prep and safety questions answered before the patient is on the table. That is what makes the phone expensive in radiology. The patient calling at 6 p.m. with the MRI their orthopedist ordered, or the referring office asking whether Tuesday's CT can move, is asking a question about an order, a modality, and a payer, and answering it well takes someone who knows which exam needs authorization and how long a contrast study occupies the magnet. Echo answers that phone, every call and text, day and night, reads the order and the modality schedule out of RamSoft, and books the exam onto a real slot at the right location while the patient is still on the line.

Background

What is RamSoft?

RamSoft is a Radiology RIS/PACS (radiology information system) that radiology groups, imaging centers, and hospital imaging departments use to manage imaging orders, exam scheduling, and reporting.

Echo is the AI receptionist that integrates directly with RamSoft: it answers every patient call and text 24/7, reads your orders and referring physicians on the worklist, the modality schedule at each location, prior authorization and eligibility status, report status, and patient records in OmegaAI or PowerServer, and books the ordered exam onto the right modality at the right site inside your authorization lead time, reschedules and cancels studies, creates the patient record for a new caller, and writes screening answers and call notes back to RamSoft in real time, writing every result back into RamSoft in real time.

RamSoft is made by its own vendor and is not affiliated with Echo. See the official RamSoft site for their product details.

In short

Key takeaways

  • A direct, 100% two-way integration with RamSoft: Echo reads your orders and referring physicians on the worklist, the modality schedule at each location, prior authorization and eligibility status, report status, and patient records in OmegaAI or PowerServer and writes appointments, reschedules, and notes back in real time, not a message queue.
  • Your RamSoft scheduling logic is Echo's: which provider, which exam types, how blocks are grouped and sequenced, how tightly the day packs. It books the slot your staff would have chosen, not simply the next open one.
  • Insurance eligibility and benefits are checked before the visit, so patients arrive verified rather than surprised at check-in.
  • Practices book 20–30% more appointments and cut front desk labor hours by 50–80%, and most reach full ROI within the first month.
  • 100% of after-hours calls are answered, triaged against your protocols, and booked or escalated, nothing goes to voicemail.
  • Up to 80% of inbound referrals are booked automatically, so referrals stop expiring in a fax tray while the patient books elsewhere.
  • Live in about 2 hours: roughly 30 minutes to enable the RamSoft API, then up to 2 hours configuring your booking rules with Echo's team.
  • HIPAA-compliant by design and covered by a signed Business Associate Agreement (BAA). Keep your number and your RamSoft workflows, no migration.

Depth of integration

What does Echo read and write in RamSoft?

Echo works inside RamSoft rather than alongside it. It reads the schedule before it answers, books while the patient is still on the line, and writes the result back to the chart in real time. Nothing waits in a queue for your front desk to re-key in the morning.

Reads

What Echo can see in RamSoft

  • orders and referring physicians on the worklist
  • the modality schedule at each location
  • prior authorization and eligibility status
  • report status
  • patient records in OmegaAI or PowerServer

Writes

What Echo does back to RamSoft

  • books the ordered exam onto the right modality at the right site inside your authorization lead time
  • reschedules and cancels studies
  • creates the patient record for a new caller
  • writes screening answers and call notes back to RamSoft in real time

Stays the same. Your RamSoft modalities, locations, exam setup, authorization rules, worklist, and Blume enrolment stay exactly as they are. There is no migration and no rebuild, and patients keep calling the number you already publish.

An imaging center schedules orders, not appointments. The caller is reading a physician's order aloud, the payer has not yet approved the CT, and the magnet costs more per idle hour than any room in healthcare. Echo reads the order and the authorization status, books the study the referrer actually ordered, and refills a cancelled slot from the open orders on the worklist.

Three ways software connects to RamSoft, and which one this is

Message capture.
The service never touches RamSoft. It collects the patient’s details and hands your team a message to enter. The work is recorded, not removed, and the appointment does not exist until somebody types it.
Scheduled sync.
Data moves between RamSoft and the tool on an interval. It is a real integration, but the tool is quoting a schedule as it stood at the last sync, so two callers can be offered the same slot and double-bookings surface after the fact.
Real-time read and write.
The tool queries RamSoft live during the call and writes back before the call ends. The slot it offers is open at that moment, and the booking is in the chart by the time the patient hangs up. This is how Echo connects to RamSoft.

The problem

Why do RamSoft practices miss patient calls?

The solution

What does Echo do inside RamSoft?

  • A cloud RIS/PACS does not pick up the phoneMoving to OmegaAI or PowerServer took the server room, the VPN, and the CD burner out of the building. It did not put anyone on the phone at 6:45 a.m. when the first patient of the day is lost in the parking lot, or at 5:30 p.m. when the referring office finally faxes the order they promised at noon. The call still rings through to voicemail, and an order that does not get scheduled on the first call is an order the referrer's next imaging center is happy to take.
  • Answers before the second ring, 24/7Echo picks up in under a second on every call, and handles texts, emails, and web forms on the same footing. The 6:45 a.m. parking-lot call, the 5:30 p.m. fax follow-up, and the Saturday patient who just read their referral are all answered, so the phone stops capping how many orders the center can turn into scheduled studies in a day.
  • The caller is booking someone else's orderAlmost nobody phones an imaging center to ask for an MRI the way they ask for a haircut. They phone because a physician ordered one, and the person answering has to work out which exam, with or without contrast, on which modality, from a patient reading the order back over the phone. In RamSoft that order carries the exam and the referring physician. Booking from the caller's description instead of the order is how a lumbar MRI without contrast becomes a wasted slot the day the patient shows up for the study that was actually ordered.
  • Books the exam the order calls forEcho reads the order and the referring physician in OmegaAI or PowerServer, confirms the exam, the laterality, and the contrast with the caller against what was ordered, and books that study onto the modality schedule rather than the caller's paraphrase of it. When the patient calls before the order has landed on the worklist, Echo captures the referring provider and the requested exam and creates the patient in RamSoft so the booking is ready the moment the order arrives.
  • No authorization, no scan, and the payer will not be rushedRamSoft flags prior authorization status on the worklist for a reason: a CT or MRI performed before the payer approves it is a study the center may not get paid for. That means the front desk cannot simply find the next open slot. It has to check eligibility, confirm whether the exam needs authorization, and book far enough out for the approval to land, all while the caller is asking why they cannot come in tomorrow. Get that sequence wrong and the exam is either cancelled at the door or written off.
  • Books inside your authorization rulesEcho reads the prior authorization status on the order and follows the lead-time and eligibility rules you set per exam, so a CT that needs payer approval is booked far enough out for the approval to land, and the caller is told plainly when a date depends on the payer. The authorization question reaches your team as a note in RamSoft on day one, not on the morning of the scan.
  • Prep and safety screening happen on the phone, or not at allA fasting CT, a contrast study with a creatinine question, an MRI on a patient with a pacemaker or a decades-old aneurysm clip: each of those is a conversation that has to happen before the appointment is real. When the phone is short-staffed, the screening questions get skipped, and the patient finds out at the scanner that they ate breakfast or that the implant card is at home. The slot is gone, the order is still open, and the technologist has lost forty minutes of modality time.
  • Asks the screening questions and gives the prep on the callEcho runs the safety and prep script you set per exam type, implants and pacemakers for MRI, contrast history and kidney function for contrast studies, fasting and arrival instructions where they apply, and writes the answers to the patient record in RamSoft for the technologist. A flagged answer is not booked around: Echo records it, tells the patient the team will follow up, and hands it to a person.
  • A cancelled MRI is the most expensive hole in the scheduleScanner time is not like an exam room. A magnet sitting idle for an hour costs the center more than any other empty slot in healthcare, and it happens every day: the patient who was never reached to confirm, the one whose authorization did not arrive, the one who cancels at 8 a.m. for a 9:30 slot. Refilling it means someone phoning down a list of patients with open orders who are free, authorized, and can get there in time, while the rest of the morning keeps ringing.
  • Refills the magnet from the open orders on the worklistThe moment a slot opens on a modality, Echo calls and texts patients with open orders for that exam at that site, in the order you choose, books the first who accepts, and writes the reschedule into RamSoft in real time. An 8 a.m. cancellation for a 9:30 MRI becomes a filled slot instead of an idle hour, with nobody at the desk phoning down a list.
  • Results calls crowd out scheduling calls on the same lineThe same number that takes new orders takes the patient who wants to know whether their report is back, the referring office chasing a critical finding, and the patient trying to get their images to a specialist before Friday. RamSoft answers many of those through Blume and referring-physician alerts, but the people who did not enrol still call, and at a busy center they are a large share of the queue. Every minute spent reading a report status aloud is a minute a new order waits on hold.
  • Takes the results and records calls off the scheduling lineEcho reads report status in RamSoft and tells a patient whether their study has been read, sends the image-release and Blume enrolment steps by text, and routes the referring office chasing a critical finding to the right person straight away. Every one of those calls is logged as a note in RamSoft, and the scheduling line stays open for the next order.

Why practices choose Echo

How is Echo different from a generic AI receptionist?

Only three things matter: whether it knows your booking logic, whether it completes the work inside your system, and what it costs your front desk to adopt.

  1. Scheduling rules engineEcho lands the slot your front desk would have picked, inside RamSoft, not whichever one happens to be open.
  2. Deep integrationsEcho reads and writes the fields your workflow actually runs on in RamSoft, so the work leaves your desk instead of coming back as a task.
  3. Mobile firstOne light app that pings your team only when a person is genuinely needed. No dashboard to check each morning.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

RamSoft describes OmegaAI as built on HL7 FHIR R4, DICOMweb, and open APIs, and publishes a FHIR capability statement, an HL7 conformance statement, and a DICOM conformance statement for it. It does not publish a developer portal, endpoint reference, or self-serve credential process, so the route for a new integration is confirmed with RamSoft directly.

Not quite. RamSoft documents PowerServer connectivity via HL7, DICOM, and IHE profiles and publishes an HL7 conformance document for PowerServer v6.0 and a DICOM conformance statement for v6.7. FHIR R4 and open APIs are described for OmegaAI only, which also has its own FHIR capability statement.

OmegaAI runs only in the cloud, on Microsoft Azure, with nothing installed at the center beyond OmegaAI LINK for DICOM routing. PowerServer is offered for both cloud and on-premises implementations, so a PowerServer site may have a local server that any interface has to reach.

RamSoft describes an AI partner ecosystem for OmegaAI and lists it on the Azure Marketplace, and it announces technology and reseller partnerships by press release, but it does not publish a formal partner-program page, application process, or partner fee schedule on its site.

Yes. It is a direct, two-way integration. Echo reads your orders and referring physicians, the modality schedule at each location, prior authorization and eligibility status, report status, and patient records in OmegaAI or PowerServer, and it books, reschedules, and cancels exams in RamSoft in real time. It creates the patient record when the caller is new and writes a note against every call it handles.

Yes. RamSoft documents PowerServer connectivity through HL7 and DICOM and OmegaAI through FHIR R4 and open APIs, and Echo connects to each platform through the interfaces RamSoft publishes for it. What Echo does on the call, reading the order, following your authorization rules, and booking onto the modality schedule, is the same on both. An on-premises PowerServer site needs a network path to the server, which we set up with your IT during onboarding.

Echo does not promise a date the payer has not approved. It reads the authorization status on the order, applies the lead time you set for that exam, and either books far enough out for the approval to land or holds the booking as pending and tells the caller exactly what happens next. Your team sees the pending authorization as a note in RamSoft that day rather than discovering it when the patient arrives.

Yes. Echo speaks 70+ languages and switches automatically on the same published number, across calls, texts, emails, and forms. Prep instructions and screening questions are delivered in the patient's language, which matters because a fasting instruction that was not understood is a cancelled slot and an idle magnet on the day.

Nothing in RamSoft changes. Your modalities, locations, exam setup, authorization rules, Blume enrolment, and worklist stay exactly as they are, and patients keep calling the number you already publish. We connect Echo to OmegaAI or PowerServer, map your exams, modality rules, screening scripts, and after-hours protocols, sign the BAA, and Echo starts answering. The RamSoft integration is currently in beta: the two-way read and write is live for beta practices, and we onboard each one with a member of our team watching the first bookings land in RamSoft. Echo is HIPAA-compliant throughout.

It writes. Echo reads your live RamSoft schedule during the call, books the appointment while the patient is still on the line, and writes it back into RamSoft in real time, along with the patient record and the notes from the call. Nothing lands in a queue for your team to re-key, and there is no message waiting to be deciphered in the morning.

A message-taking service never touches RamSoft. It collects the patient's details and hands your team something to enter, so the appointment does not exist until somebody types it. A scheduled sync moves data on an interval, so it quotes the schedule as of the last sync and two callers can be offered the same slot. Echo queries RamSoft live during the call and writes back before the call ends, so the time it offers is genuinely open at that moment and the booking is in the chart by the time the patient hangs up.

Echo verifies insurance for RamSoft imaging centers as part of booking. It checks the patient's eligibility and benefits before the visit and flags what they are likely to owe, so the appointment is confirmed with coverage already established rather than leaving a verification task on your front desk's list. Most AI receptionists can discuss insurance but cannot check it.

Echo books to the scheduling rules you configure, not to the next open gap in RamSoft. It applies which provider or room an exam type belongs to, how long that exam really takes, how appointments are grouped and sequenced through the day, and how tightly the day should pack, so the slot it lands is the one your staff would have chosen.

Yes, and most imaging centers bring Echo in to replace the after-hours service and the daytime overflow line at once. A traditional answering service cannot see your RamSoft schedule, so the best it can do is take a message your front desk re-keys the next morning, and it usually only picks up after hours. Echo answers every call and text in under a second, day or night, reads your live RamSoft schedule, and books, reschedules, and confirms directly in it. Out of hours it triages against your protocols and escalates true emergencies to your on-call contact with the patient's details already attached. The patient leaves the call with a real appointment rather than a callback.

Yes. A self-service booking link only reaches the patients who go to your website, already know what they need, and never abandon the form, which is a small slice of demand. Most patients call, and they call to check insurance, reschedule, or describe a problem before they will book. Echo answers every one of those calls and texts, handles the questions and exceptions a form cannot, and books straight into RamSoft, so you capture the patients an online link never reaches.

About two hours of your time. Enabling the RamSoft API integration takes roughly 30 minutes, and configuring your specific booking rules, providers, exam types, and after-hours protocols takes up to two hours with Echo's team walking you through it. There is no migration and no rebuild, so most practices are live within days, not weeks.

Echo is one flat monthly fee, from $499, with unlimited AI calls, sized by providers and locations and quoted in writing before you sign. Texting, online booking, and insurance verification come with the Pro plan, and a one-time onboarding fee covers the RamSoft connection and a two-week trial with real patients. See /pricing for current plans.

No. RamSoft stays your system of record. Echo is a layer on top that handles the calls, texts, and forms, then writes the result back into RamSoft. There is no migration and no rebuild, and patients keep calling the number you already publish.
