What is Hygiene recall?

Hygiene recall is the process of bringing patients back for their routine cleaning at the interval their care calls for, usually six months for a prophylaxis and three to four months for periodontal maintenance. It is tracked as a list of patients who are due or overdue.

Recall is where most of a dental practice's recurring production lives, and it is also the first thing to slip when the phone is busy, because nobody calls to complain that they were not reminded. A recall list that goes unworked shows up as a schedule that looks acceptable two weeks out and hollow at six.

Automating recall means more than sending one reminder. The patient has questions about timing, cost, and coverage, and the visit has to be booked on that same contact rather than added to a callback list.
